ACADEMIC ADVISING AND COUNSELING
Who We Serve:
Our mature entry first-time participants in good academic standing
First-time participants are those who have never attended another tertiary-level institution or have not earned previous college credits.
Continuing participants enrolled in courses or those who were enrolled in courses within the past two years
Guest/Visiting Students
Guests participants who are taking only one course and need support.
Advisors assist students by:
Identifying program requirements
Helping students explore goals, interests, and potential majors
Discussing concerns about academic performance
Helping students learn about College resources and services, course selection and registration procedures, and policies and deadlines
Creating Academic and Graduation plans
Online Consultation Hours
Monday-Friday: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Academic Offerings
St.George’s Council offers two types of liberal arts courses and ISRRPs.
1. The first is the CXC Ordinary Level Caribbean Secondary Examinations (CSEC) - normally for secondary students but is for 16 and above. The CSEC examinations are equivalent to the Ordinary Level (O-Levels) examinations in the UK and are at the high school level -final year.
2. The other is the college courses levels I and II. SGC offers these courses in online and distance format. A significant number of these courses will be Directed Research, Directed Study, and Directed Research.
3. Independent Study, Independent Reading, Independent Research and Practicum (ISRRP) are designed to provide an opportunity for the participant to complete academic work independently under the general guidance and direction of an advisor or supervisor. Participants pursuing theoretical academic work and competency-based education can apply to do ISRRP with SGC.
The hope is that participants will be able to seamlessly integrate into tertiary-level institutions such as TA Marryshow Community College St.George’s University, The UWI, and others in Grenada and the Caribbean.
